Welcome to EMAJIN. Before proceeding, please: lock the door, dim your screen, look left, look right, look behind you, check under the bed (you never know), and take a deep breath — then read these Terms & Conditions. We promise they're less frightening than the plot twists we write.
EMAJIN is a creative writing company and storytelling studio. We create our own original stories and intellectual property, while also providing creative writing services to clients. Our services may include:
In short: sometimes we create stories for you, sometimes we create stories for ourselves, and sometimes we do both — and make everyone emotionally attached to fictional people.
This one is important. Any story, novel, script, character, fictional universe, plot, concept, title, artwork, illustration, written content, or other creative work created and published by EMAJIN independently of a client commission belongs to EMAJIN, unless we expressly state otherwise. That includes work published on our website, social media platforms, reading platforms, promotional materials, or other official EMAJIN channels.
You are welcome to read them. You are welcome to love them. You are welcome to scream about the plot twist in our comment section. You are not automatically permitted to copy, reproduce, distribute, sell, adapt, translate, republish, perform, or commercially exploit them without EMAJIN's written permission.
In simpler terms: read the story, don't steal the story.
Our original characters, fictional worlds, storylines, names, personalities, relationships, and other creative elements may form part of EMAJIN's intellectual property. So if you fall in love with a character and decide you're going to make your own version of them — please don't.
If you want to collaborate with us, license a character, adapt a story, or discuss another legitimate use, contact EMAJIN. Otherwise, let our characters remain where we put them. Preferably suffering beautifully in chapter seventeen.
We love people enjoying our stories. Fan art, discussions, reviews, reactions, theories, and other non-commercial fan activity may be welcome, provided it does not falsely suggest that EMAJIN created, endorsed, or officially approved the work.
Please don't upload entire stories, chapters, scripts, or substantial portions of our original work elsewhere. Saying "I love this character" is fine. Saying "I rewrote the entire book and here's the PDF" is not. There is a difference.
Client-commissioned work: if you hire EMAJIN to write a book, script, or other creative work for you, ownership, copyright, licensing, authorship, credit, and usage rights will be determined by your specific agreement with EMAJIN.
EMAJIN original work: if EMAJIN independently creates and publishes a story, character, script, book, concept, or other creative work, it remains EMAJIN's intellectual property unless otherwise stated.
So please don't assume that because EMAJIN wrote it, you own it — that depends on who commissioned it, what agreement exists, and how the work was created. Contracts exist for a reason. Mostly because memories are terrible and lawyers enjoy paperwork.
We love hearing ideas. However, if you submit an idea, concept, manuscript, character, plot, or other material to EMAJIN for a service, you confirm that you have the right to provide that material to us. Please don't send us another writer's story and call it your own — we write stories, we don't participate in literary identity theft.
When you hire EMAJIN, we use our creative skills to develop your project according to the agreed brief. But creative work is collaborative — if you change your project halfway through from a simple romance into a 200-page psychological thriller with supernatural elements, political intrigue, three timelines, and a talking cat, that may require a new scope, timeline, and fee. The cat was not included in the original brief.
Payment terms will be communicated before work begins. A deposit or upfront payment may be required, and work may not begin until the required payment has been received. And please remember: "I'll pay you soon" is not a payment method.
Reasonable revisions included within your agreed package are welcome. However, major changes to the original concept, additional chapters, completely new directions, or endless revisions may be treated as additional work. "Just one tiny change" has destroyed many perfectly peaceful writing sessions — please don't contribute to the statistics.
We will do our best to meet agreed deadlines. You also have a responsibility to provide information, feedback, approvals, and materials when required. If we are waiting three weeks for your response, the original deadline may move — we cannot finish chapter twelve while you're still deciding what chapter two should be about.
EMAJIN respects intellectual property. Our original work is created by EMAJIN or its authorised contributors and remains protected by applicable intellectual property laws. Clients are responsible for ensuring that materials they provide to us do not infringe another person's rights. We will not knowingly copy another person's work. Inspired by something? Fine. Copying it word-for-word? Absolutely not.
We understand that some client projects are private. Where confidentiality obligations apply, EMAJIN will handle the project according to the applicable agreement. Please only provide information necessary for us to perform the service — we are a creative company, not Fort Knox.
The EMAJIN website may contain original stories, excerpts, articles, scripts, characters, artwork, illustrations, logos, branding, videos, graphics, promotional materials, and other creative content. Unless otherwise stated, these materials belong to EMAJIN or are used with appropriate permission.
You may view and enjoy the content for personal purposes. You may not reproduce, redistribute, sell, modify, scrape, republish, or commercially exploit substantial portions of our content without permission. Reading is encouraged — copy-pasting our entire website into yours is not.
Sometimes mistakes happen — a typo escapes, a comma goes rogue, a deadline needs adjusting, a character refuses to behave. If something goes wrong, please contact us before declaring war on the entire writing industry. We will do our best to resolve legitimate issues fairly and professionally.
EMAJIN may update these Terms & Conditions when necessary to reflect changes to our services, website, business practices, or legal requirements. Updated terms will apply from the date they are published, subject to applicable law — because unfortunately, even Terms & Conditions need character development.
By using the EMAJIN website or engaging EMAJIN for our services, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms & Conditions and any additional agreement applicable to your project. If you skipped straight to this section — we know. Go back. Read the thing.
Some stories are commissioned. Some stories are discovered. Some stories are born inside our own little creative universe. Either way, we're here to tell them well. You bring the idea. We build the story. And when the story belongs to EMAJIN? Please don't steal our babies.
